Trusting God and Resting in Him
We all face difficult and troubling situations during our lifetime—no one is exempt from trials. The Bible instructs us to trust God and rest in Him. But how? There are many Bible verses that tell us of the benefits of resting and trusting in the Lord, but doing it isn’t easy! What does the “rest of God” look like, and how to we get there? This is what the Lord said to me about resting in Him.
Living in God’s rest
“I want to say again, do not fear or worry. I am your Lord, your Father, your friend. I am always with you. I am always working for good, and for the very best outcomes. Rest in Me!
When you are not rested, and at peace, you are vulnerable to lies that cause fear and worry.
- To rest means to be unafraid.
- To rest means to put yourself in My hands.
- To rest means to trust Me to sustain you, to keep you, and to protect you.
When you rest, your defense becomes Who you are resting in. To rest in Me is like being in a fortified city surrounded by an impenetrable wall. You feel secure because of the surrounding defensive barrier. I become your defense, your protection, and your means of security. I am your wall, your strong tower for defense against all that comes against you. When you are truly at rest in Me, you are safe, secure, and always protected. Nothing can touch you in your rest.”
How to experience the rest of the Lord
Rest in Me, and you will experience the fullness of My life in you. First, learn to rest from your enemies. Then, learn to rest in your trials. Eventually, you will experience the rest that accompanies your very existence, your daily life in Me. This is the rest of a true disciple. This is the rest that gives you daily, even moment by moment peace. This is the rest for those who are fully Mine.
The first step is to choose to rest. Choose to put yourself in a position of dependence upon My presence. Allow My presence to become your strong tower that you enter into. Then you will see My protection, you will be in My peace, secure in Me.
As you experience My rest, you see that it is wholly for you, available and ready. You trust in it as you experience it. My rest teaches you that you can trust Me to be your strength, your security, your peace. You believe. As you believe, you begin to act like you believe. As you act, you know the truth, and My eternal truth sets you free.”
I believe that Jesus’ rest is not only possible, but available to all of us (Matthew 11:28-30, Hebrews 4:11). Resting in the midst of our trials is a matter of keeping our eyes on Him and choosing to receive what He so faithfully promises — to never leave us or forsake us.
